To set up text message forwarding, first open the Settings on your iPhone, then tap on Messages. go back and turn off iMessage and FaceTime. Check the number there, if there is no number select the little blue 'Edit' and add your number. The instructions are very similar to the ones you just followed, so it should be really easy. go to you Apple ID profile at the very top of settings and go into the Name, phone numbers and email settings.
